Math- District 49 has adopted a new math curriculum district wide. The new curriculum we will be using is called EnVisions. We will be suplementing with Investigations.
Writing- Evans will be implementing a new writing curriculum school wide this year. We will be using Writing Alive in addition to Step-Up-to-Writing.
Reading- In third grade we will be conducting guided reading groups daily, using Junior Great Books, and Reading Mastery Plus. During small group guided reading, we will be using the social studies text, science text, and leveled readers to extend our IB units. Junior Great Books will be used every third week, whole class, to work on critical thinking skills. During the reading intervention block, Reading Mastery Plus will be used in every classroom.
Spelling- Evans uses the Rebecca Sitton Spelling Program school wide. Review tests will be given every Friday. Words missed on the test will be sent home on Monday for study. Your child was given a thrid grade mastery word list in their homework folder. Please practice these words throughout the school year.
Homework- It is expected that your child read 20 minutes every night. Math, spelling, and language practice will be sent home as an extension to our classroom learnings. No new material will be sent home for homework.
